Throughout your blog you will be marked on:

M2 Present an on-going review of acting skills, describing strengths and areas to develop, setting achievable targets for improvement and reviewing progress

D2 Present an on-going review of acting skills, describing strengths and areas to develop, setting achievable targets for improvement and evaluating progress

Workshop and rehearsal observations:

Which acting strengths have you been able to demonstrate today? How?

Based on Thursday lesson (02.10.14) the acting skills that I demonstrated was movement memory, this is because in my scene I have to use a lot of the space and move at specific moments. Therefore I demonstrated use of movement memory as when performing the scene I have to remember when to move and when.

Another acting skills that I demonstrated was articulation, as in my scene my character becomes very angry and I raise my voice. This meant I have to demonstrate articulation skills as when I was raising my voice I had to make sure I was articulating as it is easy to not pronounce all of your words properly when you are shouting.

Also a skill that I demonstrated was characterisation. I demonstrated characterisation skills as in the lesson we perform our scene to another group and one member of the other group would peer assess you. This made me use my characterisation skills as I wanted the other group to believe what I was saying, the emotion, my character was going through and see Meggie McGregor in the scene not me. Therefore when performing the scene I made sure I was physical like my character, spoke like my character and reacted to the things going on in my scene like my character would. Doing this demonstrated characterisation skills as I took on all the characteristics my character has.

Some key words:

articulation
projection
breath control
learning lines
pitch, inflection and modulation
tone and vocal colour
phrasing
pace
use of pause
gesture
facial expressions
characterisation
staying in role
balance
coordination
movement memory
spatial awareness
weight placement
focus and control
relaxation
pace, energy and dynamics

Which acting skills do you need to develop based on the workshop today? Why?

Based on Thursdays lesson the acting skills I need to develop is staying in role. This is because when we were running through the plays as a class, a person in my scene said their line at the wrong point. What I should have done is carried on with the scene but instead I told him during the scene, then I carried on with the scene. Therefore I felt I could develop this acting skill because if that was the real performance I would have to carry on with the scene.

Another acting skill that I need to develop based on the lesson is gesture. This is because when I was given my peer assessment sheet back my target was, ‘not fidget with your hands’. Therefore I think I need to develop my gestures because if I thought about what gesture I was going to do in the scene before doing the scene I might not fidget with my hands.

Set yourself three targets:
1.
When I am saying the line think about the subtext so there is more emotion and depth to the line.

2.
Stop fidgeting with my hands in the scene.

3.
My last target is to use, use of pause at moments in the scene where use of pause would improve the scene and make the intensity levels higher.

Reflect on the targets set:  Have they been achieved? How?     DATE OF REVIEW: 06.10.14

1.      My first target was to ‘think about my subtext when delivering my line, to give it more emotion and depth’. I feel as though I have achieved this target as when I was running through the play as a class, I thought about why I was saying my lines and what my character was feeling when she was saying the line. I think this improved my performance as when I asked some of my friends for feedback on my performance they said that the emotion I portrayed when playing Maggie was one of my strong points.

2.      My second target was to ‘stop fidgeting with my hands when performing’. I didn’t achieve this target fully as I sometimes would start to fiddle with the sleeves while performing. However I am now aware that I am doing this, therefore I stop fidgeting when I realise that I am doing this, and I feel I will have the target achieved soon.

3.      My last target was to ‘use, use of pause at moments in the scene where use of pause would improve the scene and make the intensity levels higher’. I have achieved this target as during my weekend I went through my script and thought about where I could use, use of pause to increase the intensity levels and improve the scene. I then applied this to the scene when performing it.
